SitterCity for the part-time
I just signed up for SitterCity and I am really excited about it. I have had a series of part-time short-term crappy jobs over the last few years (I'm on the third in three years, and it may be the worst one yet), and I am sick of that cycle. I was looking for a job solution that I could be the boss of, one where I could pick my schedule and availability, I could pick my clients, I could even have a part in determining my pay and how far I have to travel. And SitterCity offers all of that (though there is no guarantee in hours, but I can live with that if it's a job that I enjoy and that I feel I have a reasonable amount of control over).
SitterCity for the control freaks (like me)
One of the biggest perks to me about SitterCity is being in control of my own schedule. The biggest issue that I have had with my crappy bosses in the past (with all three of them, ironically enough) is that they had no respect for my home life, which is infinitely more important to me than my work life. With SitterCity I can turn down jobs and tailor my availability based on my home and family life, which means no more battling bosses about the length of my honeymoon (yes, I had a boss that threatened me with no time off for the remainder of the year if I didn't shorten my honeymoon to one week, and yes it pissed me off).
SitterCity for the experienced (but not trained or certified)
I also like SitterCity because it leaves room for me to display my unique skills and talents even though most of these are not professionally trained or certified skills. I am one of those people whose major skills come from life experience (and I've had plenty of it) rather than schooling. This is partially because I don't like traditionally schooling methods (as a homeschool graduate I am rather particular about being permitted in a way that is good for me, and just plain good for learning, which I don't feel traditional schooling methods accomplish). However, I am always learning, always reading, always researching, always teaching myself, and I feel SitterCity allows me to share this fact, not just restricting me to putting down the traditional training and education I've had.
SitterCity and the rest of us
SitterCity provides a much needed service for both care providers and care clients; hooking us up. There are many parents, pet owners, homeowners, and children of elderly parents (or the elderly themselves) looking for someone to provide care and service in home or nearby for them at a rate that is negotiable or in their price range. Similarly there are many providers of childcare/tutoring, petsitting, housekeeping, and elderly care and companionship that are looking for jobs that are in home or nearby and at hours and rates that are convenient for them. SitterCity is the perfect tool for these two groups of people to meet up. More people should use SitterCity (and not just so I can get more jobs, although that would definitely be a nice perk for my SitterCity account).
